Advocare Fibo-Trim
Fiber=weight loss? Since when? Most people aren’t in the habit of reaching for the Metamucil or for that matter the Benefiber when trying to lose weight. But based on the name alone, that’s what we would think that Advocare Fibo-Trim would be.
We appreciate that Advocare Fibo-Trim does elaborate a little more, though we still don’t understand why Advocare Fibo-Trim couldn’t choose a slightly different name. Maybe Advocare Fibo-Trim wanted it to sound a bit more exotic. After all, if Advocare Fibo-Trim were to call it a fat blocker, many consumer minds would automatically jump to Alli, annoying low fat diets, and let’s face it….the risk of serious diarrhea. Who really wants that? If you’re on a proper low fat diet, you do as it turns out. But we find that regardless of the advertising, changing the name doesn’t change anything about the product itself.
The Advocare Fibo-Trim Formula
Chitosan – Chitosan is one of the most popular fat blockers, and technically, it has never been clinically proven. We’ve seen a lot of companies use it, and at the very least, research shows that it could lower cholesterol. But we find that the best policy is to use chitosan only if the product also has other active and clinically proven ingredients.
Psyllium husk powder – Psyllium husk is the most common fiber found in Metamucil, Benefiber, and a lot of other big grocery store brands meant to fight constipation. Research has also found that it lowers cholesterol, which is mentioned by Advocare Fibo-Trim. But it is not a main weight loss ingredient.
Guar gum – Guar gum is not as “natural” if you will as Psyllium husk powder, or at the very least we have found that it’s not presented that way. Guar gum is pushed as a blatant and unapologetic laxative, nothing more, nothing less. It helps you to poo more efficiently, that’s it, that’s all.
Xanthan gum – When reading labels on salad dressings and other common foods, you may come across Xanthan gum. Its main use is as a food thickener. But it is generally extracted from a lot of common food allergens, and we’ve found that it doesn’t actually have any common weight loss benefits.
Garlic powder – Garlic powder is one of the top 10 superfoods, or at least garlic is. And our research does show that garlic has a lot of benefits, especially if you are worried about your heart. There’s nothing wrong with using it. But it’s not a weight loss supplement.
Beta-sitosterol – Beta-Sitosterol is similar in structure to cholesterol, and it has been shown to have a positive effect on male hair loss and cholesterol levels.
The Skinny
Most people pay more attention to Advocare Fibo-Trim’s weight loss claims, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But we’ve found that most of the ingredients in Advocare Fibo-Trim don’t actually target weight loss. Most of the ingredients in Advocare Fibo-Trim that we researched fight bad cholesterol and improve heart health, which is actually one of the key benefits named by Advocare Fibo-Trim. And Advocare Fibo-Trim has a fat blocker, even though it is not clinically proven.
So as we see it, it’s a toss-up. If you believe that chitosan is enough on its own, then great, as long as you’re on a low fat diet. But judging by all of the other products we’ve reviewed, we’ve seen better options that have a more stable and reliable approach.
