Phenom V1
Some 90% of diet pills don’t make it for more than a few months before disappearing never to be seen again, and while one of the best ways to ensure your survival is to have a big name with plenty of TV commercials, not everybody is going to get into that pool, which is where we get products like Phenom V1.
Phenom V1 is based on as much hype as it can gather. We’ve all heard about how green tea has been used for centuries by experienced Chinese medicine men, how cha de bugre is the Brazilian miracle, and how hoodia is the natural appetite suppressant championed by the African bushmen…….in other words, who cares about the clinical studies, we’ve finally found the secret to weight loss that other cultures have been ferreting away so that we wouldn’t know. It doesn’t apply to every ingredient in Phenom V1, but we’re sure you can understand why there are plenty of experts who have their doubts about some of the key ingredients in Phenom V1.
Key Ingredients in Phenom V1
Cocoa theobromine – Theobromine comes from chocolate, which is why we love it. We think of chocolate as that sweet, milk based bar that makes your day a little bit happier. If you try eating theobromine, it’s not going to taste the same, but it has been clinically proven to promote healthy fat burning and antioxidant benefits.
Cha de bugre – A little more sketchy, some would swear by cha de bugre while others would swear it’s a scam. Either way, cha de bugre is a Brazilian herb that has yet to be clinically proven to do anything.
Hoodia – Hoodia has been through hundreds of seller sponsored animal clinical studies that show that hoodia does suppress appetite, and unless you are a rat, this does not directly apply to you, and obviously it comes with a risk of bias. On the other hand, any and all human studies so far have either been inconclusive or haven’t shown any weight loss results. It could be that scientists are missing some important component that will tie it all together, but nobody has determined what that might be just yet.
Guarana – Guarana has been used to increase natural energy levels, and it has been used to improve workouts, memory, and brain function. However, despite its hype as a major Brazilian weight loss supplement, it has never been clinically proven to burn fat.
Green tea – If there was ever a weight loss ingredient that was clinically proven it’s green tea. Green tea has been through hundreds of studies. Some skeptics have said that the metabolism boosting effect doesn’t actually promote weight loss, but in every major clinical study we’ve seen, given larger amounts, users do lose more.
Caffeine anhydrous – Used for over 20 years in most major diet supplements, caffeine anhydrous is pretty tightly controlled, because it can cause jitters, insomnia, and other side effects. It has been proven to burn fat, and it definitely does promote weight loss. Some just worry about the side effects.
Maca – Maca isn’t exactly a weight loss supplement, it has only been proven to promote a relaxing effect, helping you to sleep, and it has been used in the Polynesian islands as an alternative to alcohol. Ironically, while many have used it as a “healthier” alternative to alcohol, it carries the same risk of liver damage and ultimately liver failure.
Banaba – Banaba is typically used to control blood sugar. It doesn’t come with any major risks, AND it doesn’t come with any significant weight loss benefits. Typically, it is used to control cravings by controlling blood sugar, but it’s a background ingredient.
Guggulsterone – Guggulsterones come in 2 different forms: yellow and brown, and technically, there is no way to tell the difference between the two based on the ingredients list. Why does this matter? Because unlike other ingredients (like caffeine which seems to burn fat no matter the form), only the brown form has been proven to promote weight loss. Our contention with any product using this ingredient is whether or not it has the clinically proven type.
Glucomannan – Glucomannan is a clinically proven appetite suppressant based on fiber. It blows up in the stomach, and it can also promote regularity and better heart health at the same time. It has been clinically proven to suppress appetite, and it seems to be relatively safe.
L-theanine – A natural amino acid, this particular supplement has been proven in certain cases to promote better sleep. It seems to promote relaxation, which obviously has nothing to do with weight loss, at least on the surface. However, some believe that reduced stress levels can increase natural weight loss.
Magnolia bark – Magnolia bark is typically used as a natural sleep aid. Like l-theanine, it promotes relaxation, which some say can help you to lose weight. However, the debate is whether or not sleep and stress are really connected to weight loss at all.
The Skinny
Phenom V1’s formula is about half and half. It has some ingredients that come with side effects (mostly related to caffeine), which might cause you to turn away, and it has some ingredients that are basically safe, but have never actually been clinically proven to promote weight loss. It’s possible that sleep aids might counteract the side effects associated with caffeine, but it’s also completely possible that it could also counteract the weight loss benefits.
