To help you avoid the fraud and misinformation sometimes common to this market, we wanted to provide you with a list of the best ingredients to look for in weight loss supplements. These compounds have been proven through credible and scientific research to help real people experience real benefits. Looking for these ingredients within potential weight loss supplements is going to efficiently help you reach your weight loss goals.
Weight Loss Supplement Ingredients to Look For:
Cissus Quadrangularis and Irvingia Gabonensis
Chances are, you’ve probably heard of Irvingia Gabonensis, more commonly known as African Mango. Cissus Quardrangularis, however, is a little more obscure. Studies show that these ingredients when used alone or together can provide incredible weight loss benefits. In 2008, researchers from the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Yaoundé conducted an experiment testing the effectiveness of this supplement combination on 72 obese human test subjects. 24 of them received a placebo, 24 took Cissus Quadrangularis only, and 24 subjects were administered the Cissus Quadrangularis and African Mango blend.
Over the course of a 10 week study, the subjects who took the synergistic blend were able to lose on average 20.06 percent of their body fat. The average weight of the subjects at the onset of the experiments was about 219 pounds give or take 30 pounds. At the end of the ten week study, the average weight was about 193 pounds plus or minus about 7 pounds. This means that the average participant taking Irvingia Gabonensis and Cissus Quadrangularis combination lost 26 pounds! The best part was they didn’t even have to alter their diet, calorie intake, or exercise regimens to experience these benefits.
Gluccomannan
People don’t often remember that appetite suppressants and high fiber ingredients are great additions to weight loss supplements. The Journal of Obesity published a study conducted by the Research Department at General Nutrition Mills in conjunction with Moorhead State University that verified this. In their study, researchers asserted that “high intake of dietary fiber is also reported to reduce caloric consumption, food ingestion rate, and nutrient absorption.” This is because fiber forms into bulking material inside the stomach and intestines. This bulking fiber helps increase feelings of fullness after eating. By reducing hunger, it becomes easier to eat less between meals.
The study above specifically looked into the effectiveness of an ingredient called Glucomannan. During an 8-week study, obese patients were instructed to take two 500mg capsules of Glucomannan and 8 ounces of water before each of their three meals per day. They were not told to change or alter eating or exercise habits. After 8 weeks, subjects experienced an average loss of 5.5 pounds. These results may not be as dramatic as some ingredients out there but Glucomannan would still bring an added degree of effectiveness to any supplement that would include it.
Green Tea and Caffeine
These two ingredients are some of the most commonly used compounds in weight loss supplements, but it’s because they have proven to work. In fact, there is quite a bit of research to show that together, Green Tea and Caffeine can reduce weight, fat mass, and the circumference of the waist. One study by the Department of Human Biology, Maastricht University in Maastricht, The Netherlands conducted an experiment that showed a combination of green tea and caffeine was able to help obese subjects lose more and keep it off better once it had been lost. Over three months of taking a daily dose of 270mg of green tea extract and 150mg of caffeine, participants lost an average of 13 pounds. This combination was also shown to encourage higher levels of thermogenesis, fat oxidation, and improved energy expenditure. These subjects however were on a low-energy diet which means that you would need to eat right to make sure Green Tea and Caffeine had their maximum effect.
